A special thanks goes out to ALLSTAR COMMUNICATIONS for their contribution toward the 2009 Canada Summer Games
The sport of golf will be introduced as a Canada Games sport for the first time at the 2009 Canada Summer Games scheduled for Prince Edward Island. This is a tremendous development for golf and for young golfers right across the country who may now earn the chance to participate in the Canada Games. For the Canada Games, each province/territory will send a 6 player team consisting of 3 boys and 3 girls to compete in August of 2009. All junior players who are member of a New Brunswick Golf Association (NBGA) member golf club and who are born on August 30th, 1990 or later are eligible to become a member of Team NB for the Canada Games. The NBGA is pleased to inform you that Louis Melanson has been appointed to coach the 3 player boys team, and Bari Gourley has been appointed to coach the 3 player girls team that will make up Team NB. A. Eligible players wil earn points at four (4) identified championships over the course of the 2008 and 2009 golf seasons. The three (3) players with the most total points at the end of the four events will become members of Team New Brunswick for the 2009 Canada Games. The four events where players can earn points are as follows: 2008 East Coast Junior Championship 2008 Austin Drisdelle Realty Ltd. NB Junior Championship 2009 East Coast Junior Championship 2009 Austin Drisdelle Realty Ltd. NB Junior Championship B. Points allocated for each of the qualifying events will be as follows:
C. Cumulateive totals for the Canada Games qualifying events will be maintained on the NBGA web site starting immediately following the 2008 East Coast Junior Championship. D. Eligible players are encouraged, but not required, to participate in all qualifying events. E. In the case of ties for positions other than the champion in qualifying events, points will be split equally among tied participants (eg. 2 players tied for 5th at the 2009 NB Junior, each player will receive 145 points - 160 + 130 / 2 = 145). F. Points will be awarded to the top 10 finishers among Canada Games eligible participants for each qualifying event. G. In the case of ties in the final standings, results at the 2009 NB Junior Championship will be used to break the tie. If players are still tied, results at the 2009 East Coast Junior Championship will used, followed by the results at the 2008 NB Junior, and then if necessary, results at the 2008 East Coast Junior.
The Canada Games coaching staff, in conjunction wit the NBGA Junior Committee, will oversee a two year player development program aimed at preparing players for their possible involvement in the 2009 Canada Games. the NBGA intends to include a pool of 12-16 male players and 6-8 female players as part of this player development plan. The NBGA envisions having 2-4 camps during the 2008 season, and another 2-4 camps during the 2009 season leading up to the games. also, as the Canada Games approach, players in the training pool will work increasingly with Canada Games coaches to formulate and follow indivdualized training plans. Canada Games training camps will be by invitation, with invitations being based on Canada Games point standings. Player seeking a position on New Brunswick's Canada Games team are encouraged and expected to participate in all official training sessions for which they have been invited. Players failing to do so risk jeopardizing their position on Team New Brunswick, even if they otherwise qualify for the team. Where possible, the NBGA will assist in covering costs fro the training camps. The remainder of the costs will be the responsibility of the individual players. Fore more detailed information on Team New Brunswick's training, please refer to the NBGA Canada Games Strategic Plan.
